We Are Here To Bake
One thing I love about food and cooking is that it’s imperfect. Cooking is an art that takes practice, accrues failures, and is for the pursuit of tastiness. I remember being a child and being excited to help bake. It was an important part of the family tradition, especially around holidays and birthdays.
It’s rare to find anything that isn’t made from scratch on these occasions or in general. Our family takes pride in being able to say that and to know how to bake from scratch. My mom (Lee) loves to make scratch piecrust. The number of times my mom has had to remake a piecrust because it just wasn’t right is countless. (I may be exaggerating).
This isn’t to say she’s not a good baker; it’s to say she wants her pie to be perfect. And the amazing thing is they always are. Family members started asking her when she’s going to open her own restaurant and they haven’t stopped asking for 20 plus years. So instead she got the idea to “open” a food blog, which is sort of like a bakery, but you don’t have to get up early and there’s no bakery.
So what’s the point? Why am I telling you about my mom’s endless search for the perfect piecrust and our love for imperfect cooking? I’m not sure. But what I do know is I’m happy you’ve made it to our blog. See the thing is we have been trying to make this blog from scratch for almost two years now. We have made the dough, rolled it out, cut the shape and thrown it out over a dozen times. We really want to get this right.
So thank you to all our friends and family who thought this day would never come. We have a blog! It’s live! And we can’t throw it out anymore. We are here to bake.
