I can still remember when my mom found the bean pot recipe and passed it on to me. She was pretty excited about how easy it was to make and how great it tasted.

With all the planning, effort and creative energy I put into Thanksgiving, my girls have suggested the last couple of years that I simplify the menu. The funny thing is, when I say ok, we’ll cut out these rolls or this type of pie, it always turns out that that’s somebody’s favorite.
Rebel claims that I start thinking about Thanksgiving recipe ideas around, say, July. As she joked with me a couple of summers ago about this, I said she exaggerated. Once she’d pointed it out, I noticed, ok sure, some years it happens. Actually, maybe every year.
We wanted to create a variation on egg salad that had plenty of curry and spice — and, of course, we made them dairy free. Master chefs that we are (hah, can you sense the sarcasm?), we made tiny mixtures of mayo and spices and tasted them.
I’ve recently come to enjoy asparagus. Growing up my mom would express her disdain for ham and asparagus, so being a kid I decided I didn’t like them either.
